A LinkedIn Profile Review Checklist for Executives
A LinkedIn profile often appears near the top of a name search. Treat it as a current professional record, not an unattended résumé.
Check the first screen
Confirm the name, headline, role, location, photograph, and introduction reflect the present. A headline should make sense outside your existing network. Avoid unsupported claims or keywords repeated for their own sake.
Review the work history
Check employer names, dates, descriptions, and links against your organisation's biography. Add selected work only where it helps a reader understand your contribution. Remove confidential details and review old posts or comments that no longer represent your position.
Choose visibility deliberately
Review the platform's current privacy and profile-display settings. Decide what contact details and activity should be public. Revisit the profile after changes in role, company, or public responsibilities, and verify how it appears in search.
Review from the outside
Open your profile in a signed-out browser. Look at the headline and first visible lines without clicking 'more.' Then compare the experience dates with the official biography. This catches the inconsistencies a search visitor sees first, rather than only the editing view you are familiar with.

A practical checklist
- View the profile signed out to see the public version.
- Check headline, current role, organisation and dates against the official bio.
- Review the about section for specific, supportable claims.
- Inspect featured items and old posts for outdated or sensitive details.
- Choose public visibility settings deliberately and recheck after changes.
Illustrative example
How this can play out
An executive edits a role in LinkedIn but the signed-out page still hides the updated section under current visibility settings. The issue is not only copy quality: the public profile view is what a search visitor can inspect. Review both the editing view and public view before declaring the update complete.
This is a hypothetical illustration, not a client case or a claimed FAMA Bureau result.
Questions people ask
Questions and limits
Does LinkedIn control Google's update timing?
No. LinkedIn explains that search tools refresh on their own schedule. Verify both the public profile and search result.
Should I make every profile field public?
No. Balance discoverability with privacy, especially contact and personal details. Public visibility can be adjusted by section.
In brief
The best profile is accurate, consistent with other sources, and intentionally public.
